CONGRATULATIONS COACH HANCOCK!
Coach Roosevelt Hancock was officially enshrined into the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026, solidifying his legacy as one of the most impactful figures in the city's sports history.
The induction ceremony took place during a gala at the Renasant Convention Center in downtown Memphis, drawing crowds of former players, colleagues, and members of the community to celebrate a lifetime of leadership and dedication.
A Legacy Built on Foundation and Faith
For over a decade, Coach Hancock stood as the cornerstone of Hamilton High School's football program. Taking the helm of the Wildcats in 1977, he built a culture of discipline, resilience, and academic excellence in South Memphis. Under his leadership, the Wildcats became a formidable force, boasting an exceptional career winning percentage and consistently competing at the highest levels.
However, Hancock’s true impact stretched far beyond the gridiron statistics. Known for his unwavering belief in his players, he prioritized education and personal development, helping countless student-athletes secure college scholarships that transformed their lives and futures.

In recognition of his profound influence on generations of Memphians, the city marked the occasion with an official civic honor. The date of the induction ceremony was formally proclaimed as "Coach Roosevelt Hancock Day" across Memphis, celebrating a man who served not just as a coach, but as a mentor, father figure, and community anchor.
With his induction, Coach Hancock takes his rightful place alongside the greatest athletic icons of the Bluff City, ensuring that the roar of Wildcat Nation and his dedication to youth sports will inspire future generations for decades to come.

State testing reveals a stark reality: roughly 80% of our third graders are falling behind in reading and math, often starting as early as first grade.
